Military Inspired Outfit

This Memorial Day weekend, honor our soldiers and country by wearing a military inspired outfit like this!   Try wearing leather boots, as well as tan, white, and green colors.   Accesories like a hat, messenger bag, and aviator sunglasses tie a military look like this one together really well too.   Enjoy!

Newspaper Print Nails

Tired of the same, old, solid colored painted nails?  I know I am!   Lucky for us there is a really cool easy way to make your nails different from everyone else's!  If you are interested in "Newspaper Print Nails" as the ones shown above, see the simple directions below.   Hope you like it!

Newspaper Nails

What you need:

  • One small glass or cup
  • Rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • 10 strips of newspaper the size of your nail (it must be able to cover your nail)
  • A light colored nail polish
  • Clear, top coat nail polish
What to do:
  1. Polish nails with your desired light colored polish.   Let nails dry completely.
  2. Fill glass up with rubbing alcohol or vodka.
  3. Dip your whole nail into the glass (make sure entire nail is covered!)
  4.  Place and press a strip of newspaper onto your nail and hold it down firmly.  Let newspaper sit and soak for around 30 seconds.
  5. Remove strip carefully.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 on every other nail.
Let me know how your nails turned out!

The Perfect Beachy Waves

Leighton Meester is one of many celebrities who is rocking beachy waves this season!  You can too!   Below are directions of how to style your hair like this without using a curling iron.  Curling irons and straighteners burn your hair and create breakage so its best to try to use them as little as possible.   It's super easy, and defiantly worth a try!

The Perfect Beachy Waves:

  1. The night before you want to work these waves, wash your hair (like you would regularly) brushing it afterwards so it is tangle free.
  2. When hair becomes damp (not wet or dry!) add a small amount of wave-enhancer (can be purchased at a drug store or beauty supply store) from your hair roots to hair tips.
  3. Separate hair into about six sections (more sections= tighter, smaller waves, less sections= less, looser waves)
  4. Braid each section of hair (loose braids= softer waves, tight waves= crimped waves).   Sleep with the braids in your hair (or leave them in for ten or more hours).
  5. The next day, if hair is not completely dry (check by sticking your finger into the middle of your braid, if it is ready it will be dry in the center) blow dry your hair until it is.   Remove braids gently and enjoy!

Look of the Day: Feminine Edgy

This Feminine Edgy outfit starts with a girly lace dress.   One of the many reasons I love lace is because you can make it edgy just as easy as you can make it soft and pretty based on accessories you add to it.   Lace also has so many different patterns and colors, so you are sure to have a unique dress (or other lace clothing item).   The accessories in this outfit are a sparkly, cream colored clutch, a pair of black suede platform booties, a pair of vintage pearl flower earrings, and a crystal headband.   The clutch, adds more texture to this outfit.  The light cream color and sparkles also add more personality to this dress.   Clutches are perfect when you only need to hold a few things such as a cell phone, and money; so its always great t0 have a versatile one like this around.  The suede platform booties are what makes this outfit edgy thanks to their dark color and rough material.   If you want to add more edge to an outfit like this, stick to leathers, suede, and any other edgy material you can find and feel that compliments your lace.   If you have a colored lace (meaning anything other then cream or white), I would defiantly go with black suede or leather so it does not detract to much attention from the color of the lace.   The pearl flower earrings add a cute vintage touch to this outfit.   When searching for jewelry to compliment an outfit like this, you need to look at what compliments the dress, not the other accessories.   This is so you can easily find textures and patterns that go together.  For instance, if you just look at the dress in the image above, and then one at a time look at it with each individual accessory you can see that they each go with the dress.   I believe this is much easier then looking at them all together because, for some it is confusing to see many textures and patterns at once.   Last but not least, comes the headband.  Headbands defiantly are not for everyone, but if you like them or are willing to try one out, I suggest either a crystal, pearl, or leather (if there is no other source of leather in your outfit) for a lace dress.   Good luck!
